Reaching a consensus on music syncs might not always be straightforward. Maybe that’s because there’s no universal language for describing music. Regardless, having a macro view of a film or television show’s soundtrack that uses shared terminology can be beneficial, especially with multiple stakeholders.

Commercial Director Mack Hampson recently addressed the AIM SYNC conference on this topic. In this video, he outlines Musiio’s approach to tagging music and how AI can be an assistive technology for understanding sync.

To illustrate what’s possible in the realm of TV and film sync, Mack chooses examples such as Don’t Look Up, After Life, Dune. Across these titles, Musiio's AI tagging tech can give insights into the sonic properties of each cue, such as mood, genre, tempo and energy.

Once these properties are consistently tagged – as our AI tech can do at scale – it becomes easier to filter by these criteria. Need a sad ambient track? Filter your catalogue for those terms. Consistent metadata makes it easier for music supervisors, editors and other creators to find alternative music selections quickly.

An example of how AI-generated tags could be displayed in editing software such as Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Premiere Pro or Audio Design Desk.

Equally, the Musiio AI tagging tech can operate as a music trend detector in advertising. When we explored the music used in car advertisements in Malaysia, we found specific trends that could help manufacturers and creative agencies make better strategic decisions.
